Presumptive Eligibility Application No Longer Available on CHFS website

PE Medicaid is still available to Kentuckians who have not yet utilized its coverage for two periods of coverage in 2022. However, starting July 14th, Kentuckians can only apply for PE coverage while seeking treatment at a hospital

During the 2022 General Assembly, the harmful public assistance bill HB7 passed. Among the many damaging reforms, HB7 eliminates the Cabinet for Health and Family Services ability to determine Presumptive Eligibilty Medicaid. As of July 14th, the public application previously hosted on the CHFS website will be removed and no longer available. Kentuckians needing to enroll in PE coverage will now only be able to do so when seeking treatment at a hospital. PE coverage for pregnant people is not impacted by this change.

For any questions or to get help understanding health coverage options, we encourage individuals to find a kynector or insurance agent nearby to help them explore their options.

As a reminder, Kentuckians can enroll in Medicaid at any time throughout the year. Medicaid income eligibility for most Kentucky adults is capped at 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) or below — that’s approximately $17,609 for an individual or $36,156 for a family of four. Children living in households with incomes at or below 218% FPL are eligible for Medicaid or KCHIP. Pregnant women are eligible for Medicaid if their household income is at or below 200% FPL. To complete a full Medicaid application, Kentuckians can apply online at kynect.ky.gov, call 1.855.306.8959, or contact a local kynector for application assistance. When completing the full Medicaid application, Kentuckians will have the option to choose from the current MCOs: Aetna, Anthem, Humana, Molina/Passport, UnitedHealthcare, and WellCare.
