  • Are SNAP benefits increasing October 1? Or changes to income requirements?

In the past, there was a cost of living increase to SNAP benefits, is that happening October 1?

And will there be any changes to income based eligibility?

Yes, there will be slight changes coming in October.

There will be an annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for SNAP starting Oct. 1, 2023 for the 2024 Fiscal Year. This means SNAP participants may see changes in the amount of benefits they are eligible for.

There will be a increase in the gross monthly income eligibility guidelines based on household size.

In terms of benefits, the minimum will remain $23 but maximum payments will increase 3.5%-3.7%.

There will also be changes in deductions that could result in additional SNAP benefits – an increase in the minimum standard deduction for household sizes 1-3, and an increase in shelter cap values, and maximum homeless shelter deductions,

You can learn more about these changes here: https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/allotment/COLA
